Discernment Mode by The Pioneer Woman

Discernment Mode by The Pioneer Woman

Yesterday morning we got up at 5:00 am. Ladd and the kids saddled their horses and headed out, and I made breakfast burritos. I delivered the burritos to the gang in between pastures they had to gather, and as soon as they were done with the second pasture, Paige ran home, got cleaned up in five minutes flat and we headed out…

To a college tour that afternoon!

We arrived at the opening session about three minutes late, which to Paige is the same as being an hour late, but to me is like being 27 minutes early!

I’ve been to OU games before, and I’ve driven on the outskirts of the school, but have never really seen the whole campus. It’s really lovely!

Beautiful buildings.

And the library! It reminded me of so many movies: The Graduate, Chapter Two…both of which I now need to watch within the next 24 hours.

Life reminds me of movies I’ve seen.

Also, I just wanted to sit down at one of the tables and enjoy the quiet for a couple of hours. But Paige wouldn’t let me.

We walked all over the campus, and our tour guide was amazing. His name was Slater and he was very funny. He told the prospective students all the helpful information about academic programs…as well as which buildings had the most comfortable couches that are most conducive to mid-day naps. He told the prospective students all the helpful information about housing…as well as all the funny superstitions about different spots on campus.

I’ll bet his mama just loves him.

He also took us to the main dining hall on campus, which is always something I want to see on college tours!

It’s funny…after the tour was over and Paige and I were driving home, I asked her what stood out to her the most about the tour.

She responded that she was really impressed with the school, but she really couldn’t get the dining hall dessert case out of her mind.

She is her mother’s daughter.

At this point, Paige truly has no idea where she will wind up going to college. She applied to four (the very first day applications opened up, because that’s how Paige rolls), has heard from three, and now is in discernment mode. Seeing the campuses, the students, the dessert cases—this is all part of the process!

All four schools have something wonderful to offer. So I think it’s going to have to come down to who has the best cheesecake. Ha.
