Mummy Pretzels by Bridget

Mummy Pretzels

Sweet, salty, silly—these mummy pretzel rods are really all you can ask for in a Halloween treat. I could make these all day, every day. They are so, so much fun.

We talked about candy coatings before and we’re going to use them here. Your long list of ingredients includes: white candy coating, shortening, pretzel rods, and candy eyeballs. That’s it.

Start my melting white candy coating. Go ahead and use a full bag. If you’re making more than 24 or so, use 2 bags. Once melted, if the candy coating is too thick, stir in shortening a teaspoon or so at a time, until it is a smooth dipping consistency.

Pour the warm, melted coating into a tall, thin glass or container. The taller and thinner the container, the more dipped the pretzels will be.

Dip the pretzel rods in, one at a time, and place on a greased drying rack. I use shortening to grease the rack. You can place these on a waxed paper-lined cookie sheet, but your mummies will have flat bottoms. No one wants a flat bottom.

Let the dipped pretzels set. Melt more coating, or gently reheat what you’ve already melted. About 15–20 seconds on 50% power in the microwave should do the trick for reheating. Pour these melts into a pastry bag. Snip the tip.

Drizzle the candy coating over the dipped pretzels. Don’t worry about getting the backs. Immediately press two candy eyes onto the wet drizzle. Set back on the greased drying rack to set up completely.

I mean, are they cute, or what? My phone is filled with mummy pretzel photos taken at all angles. (Instead of a crazy cat lady, I’m now an insane pretzel person.)

Or package and tie with ribbon.

Mummy pretzels make a darling little gift and delightful addition to any Halloween dessert table. (I eat mine “handle first.”)

I love these dipped pretzels so much that I’m trying to work out a way to have them at every holiday. Or maybe every day? Is that overkill? Please say no.
