Life’s a Beach by The Pioneer Woman

Life’s a Beach by The Pioneer Woman

On Friday, my sister-in-law Missy and I came to Florida with the following people:

Our mother-in-law, Nan
Nan’s mom, Edna Mae
Nan’s sister, Diane
My niece Halle
My daughter Alex
My daughter Paige

If Missy had written the above list, here is what it would look like:

Our mother-in-law, Nan
Nan’s mom, Edna Mae
Nan’s sister, Diane
My niece Alex
My niece Paige
My daughter Halle

Just wanted to point that out.

This is a girls’ trip. We have been wanting to do it for a long time, and when we all figured out a small handful of dates when our universes (and schedules) aligned, we jumped at the chance. And we have blissfully done absolutely nothing, short of a couple of bike rides to the store and a couple of funny kayak and paddle board rides, other than just be together. It’s time that we are all breathing in and cherishing, because we know it isn’t going to last forever.

Missy and I are enjoying having time together off the ranch! We only live a mile apart as the crow flies, but are both so busy at home with our teenagers and animals and husbands and lives that we hardly ever get to spend time together in any sort of leisurely way. Last night we took a walk on the beach after dark, and we caught up on everything there is to catch up on and walked way too far to the point that we were tempted to call Uber or 911 to come pick us up. This morning my toes are kinda sore, which is really sad. Ha. But it was nice to take a walk just before bedtime!

Missy also forced me to get in the kayak, and I am convinced we saw a great white shark even though Missy insists it was the shadow from her paddle. I keep telling her that paddles don’t have razor sharp teeth and black beady eyes but she never listens to me. We almost died!

Here are the kinds of reflections one has under an umbrella on a beach while wearing cropped yoga pants and a loose linen top because the bathing suit just wasn’t all that appealing:

1. Life is a gift.
2. Time together is a gift.
3. Everything can wait.
4. Bathing suits are overrated.
5. Fish tastes really good near the ocean.
6. Peanut M&M’s taste really good near the ocean.
7. We are all tiny.
8. Yet we are all special.
9. Life is a gift.
10. I already said that, but it was worth repeating.

Have a beautiful day!

Love,
P-Dubster
