Picnic Food! by PW Food & Friends

It’s June! Can you feel summer getting ready to knock on the door? The chill in the air is finally loosening its grip, kids are just about free of the school year, days are longer and the sun is shining a bit more confidently each day. Here at Food & Friends, it also means one thing: You never know when a picnic might break out.

As much as we love a great big BBQ party or a large get-together outdoors with an abundance of dishes to choose from, we think small impromptu picnics are just as fun—and less stressful to pull off. If you keep a designated picnic bag ready with your essentials (nice big blanket or cloth to spread out, utensils, napkins, an outdoor speaker if you like playing music outdoors, sunscreen, a game or two, etc.), all you have to do is figure out your food, invite some friends (or hey, go solo!), grab your picnic bag on your way out, and you’re all set!

Don’t let a lack of advance notice deter you from enjoying the outdoors. If you don’t have any time at all to prepare something, just stop by the store and grab a few things! But if you want to make something to bring, whether you have just a little bit of time or a lot, we’ve got you covered. Here are some favorites we’re loving right now!

Handheld Chicken Pot Pies. Mmmm. The comfort of chicken pot pie, with a hand free for a super soaker ambush. Or, in our case, a hand free to hold a glass of wine.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispies. Peanut butter for extra protein, and chocolate just because you can. Guaranteed to be a hit.

Sun Tea. How fun would it be to let your sun tea brew while everyone is playing outside!

Cuban-Inspired Sandwich. So easy to make, and so satisfying. If you have 15 minutes, you can have this made and ready to go. Done and done.

Middle Eastern Chicken & Eggplant Kebabs. These are great on their own, stuffed into pitas, or mixed with pasta for a filling pasta salad!

Grilled Vegetable & Andouille Salad with Spicy Ranch

Grilled Vegetable & Andouille Salad with Spicy Ranch. Thirty minutes and a hot grill is all you need to assemble this killer salad.

Spice-Rubbed Grilled Chicken. You can marinate this in a bag, toss the bag in a cooler, and grill it on-site if your neighborhood park has grilling stations. Bring extra because it smells amazing while cooking and you’ll make lots of new friends.

German Potato Salad. The perfect side for your main dish. Vinegar instead of mayo means this can tolerate the heat more. And oh, did we mention it has bacon?

5 Easy Crostini Ideas. Maybe it’s a small, more intimate picnic, where wine takes center stage. Give your wine the support it deserves with these great ideas for crostini!

2-Ingredient Sangria. Speaking of wine …

We hope these inspire you to spend more time outdoors this summer. Do you have any favorite picnic fare? Share the love in the comments below!

Have a great week, everyone! June is here!
